Nicolas Charles’ Heavenly Crepes

The savory perfection was unbearably superb! I almost walked past the opening of a crepe shop named Nicolas Charles in the Omotesando area. Normally, crepes are the color beige because (naturally) it’s made with flour, but these crepes caught my attention. They are different. I love different! The flour was blended with chocolate and designed with rabbit faces. I just had to give one a try. So, I decided to purchase the strawberry flavored one. Where do I start and how do I end this description? Every single spoon full of the crepe was nearly like consuming a little bit of heaven.
This rabbit-decorated pastry was moist, crunchy and filled with diverse mouthwatering flavors. Mine included whipped cream, strawberry sorbet, small bits of chocolate, edible silver beads, fresh blueberries and strawberries, and crunchy cake-like pieces of truffles that changed the way I ever felt about crepes in the past. I fell in love with something new, as I tend to do with sweets once in a while. The strawberry crepe, just like the founder was truly French. It had a European feel to it. The difference between that crepe and all the other ones I have had is the texture, the taste and the variety of flavors one pastry had actually made a complete distinction. The chocolate crepe was an extreme joy to have.

The founder, Nicolas Charles, is well known in Japan. He has lived in the land of the rising sun for about 15 years. Though, prior to moving here, he worked in France at a one star restaurant. He has been featured in numerous Japanese cooking shows and now has opened his store in Omotesando.
What a delight it was to speak with Mr. Nicolas Charles himself for a few minutes. He was quite welcoming and full of glee to all of his customers. I look forward to returning and having some more crepes. Aside from the crepes, he has assorted cream puffs, parfaits and a menu full of goodness, all of which I would like to try!
Although my time with Mr. Charles was short, it left a long lasting impression, not only due to his hospitality, but because the scrumptious crepe spoke for itself. I can see this company blossoming to many franchises in the near future. I wish Mr. Nicolas Charles and his staff tons of success!
My biggest regret is not buying TWO crepes!
Next time!
