Diary of My Eye Disease Treatment
Day Thirteen

JENNIFER | SEPTEMBER 22, 2014
Well, well, well…
Today, I am going to keep it extremely short.
The ladies in my room woke up before 5:00 and shortly afterwards left the room to allow me to sleep. Thank goodness! Although, I wanted to fall asleep, I just couldn’t doze off. I continued reading The Good Guy’s Guide to the Girl.
Morning check-up? Done!
Mini Stretch and Workout
I wanted to start the day off a little better than I have been. I ended up stretching and doing a short workout near my bed. Oh, it felt so good.

Breakfast
I sat with the ladies and spoke about food and other topics. Kaori wanted to talk with me about my plan and she wanted to share something. Yet, she didn’t get to talk about it. Today’s meal was included rice, mushroom and tofu, green beans marinated in ground white sesame, wheat gluten and seaweed soup and yogurt. Yummy all the way!
The Eye Injection
I went to my room and got my sticker. About an hour or so later, the injection came in. I was a bit shocked. A male doctor I had never seen before administered it and did a pretty great job. I did not feel the pain until the steroid kicked in and the pain seemed to have been calmer today. I was over it in less time than I thought. It was one of those days.

Takeshi’s back & Lunch Time
Since Takeshi is back at the hospital, he joined me for lunch. The ladies I usually join sat at another table. All of us couldn’t fit at one table. We caught up and he was telling me what he did while he had his break. Since he couldn’t work, he spent his time walking around his neighborhood and relaxing from the hustle and bustle. He tried to get the new IPhone 6, but it is out of stock. He’s officially put it on reserve. Before he left, my face and chest area weren’t covered in pimples so I decided to update him so he wouldn’t think I was turning into a mutant. He was also telling me that he has a 27-inch IMac at home. I couldn’t help but tell him that I did too. We are team Apple gadget owners over here. Except, I don’t want the IPhone 6. I need to know more about the watch and see if I want it first.
For lunch, we had the thick Japanese noodles that I love, called udon. We poured the sauce over it and on another side dish a tube-shaped fish paste cake called chikuwa. We had a different dessert. Like most people know about me, I hate milk, and this dessert was made of milk. However, it was sweet and at the base of it, there were sweet beans. That made the taste so much better. It is delicious. It wasn’t enough food so I made sure I ate it all. I know I can eat a lot especially when I feel like I am not getting enough. I gave in and told Takeshi how much I miss eating sweets and can’t wait to have some when I leave here.

A Visitor
One of my friends stopped by today. He spent about two hours with me or at least that is what it felt like. We talked and I felt bad, because I know anyone that comes here gets bored after about 20 minutes. I mean, I know I would. He said he wasn’t. We just talked about anything and everything. He was pretty patient. He told me he was going to the bookstore to get his 4-year-old nephew a book and then to a Bengali class, which he takes every Monday at 6:00pm. He is pretty fluent too. He has been taking lessons for 5 years. That’s what I call dedication. He goes to Bangladesh almost every year and that’s pretty awesome! Maybe one day I will go there.
On another note, he is planning to pick me up on Saturday when I get released and I asked him to take me to eat pancakes and watch a movie. He laughed, but agreed. I’m so happy! I told him that I have been out of shape here, too. I want to get back to working out a.s.a.p. So when he was leaving, he told us to go down the stairs so I can get my body moving. That made me chuckle!

Dinner Time
I felt a little guilty sitting with Takeshi earlier and feeling a bit distant from the ladies. So, he had a good idea. He placed two tables together and we all sat at two tables. Takeshi ended up renting another movie on his IPad named I Am and asked me if I wanted to watch it. I am always up for a movie. It was written and directed by filmmaker Tom Shadyac. I had never heard of it before. It is actually a documentary.
Dinner was pretty tasty. We had salmon with a scrumptious mustard sauce, green peas and broccoli, potatoes with asparagus, a tomato and green soup and rice. One of the other ladies at our table does not eat fish and I wanted to grab her salmon and stuff it, but I held my composure. Once we finished, I took his IPad and went to my room for about an hour and a half. Then I caught him in the hallway, promptly returned it and thanked him.
After dinner, I asked Kaori if she would like to share her idea with me. She said she was going to watch something in her room. I guess she might tell me some other time.
I Am
That was an amazing documentary. I will not disclose all of the details, but it made perfect sense. There is so much more to life than to constantly be competing against others or to aim only to be at the top. Instead of working together, feeling ourselves as one whole being and accepting that, we divide to conquer. Then the results affect our daily lives, our actions and our ways of thinking. I would love to watch it again! It was an honor to see what this filmmaker thought was important and what I also think is important in our livelihood.
I truly decided to keep it short today. I worked on my plan a little and took it easy. Thanks for reading!
