FUNABASHI, JAPAN. In a city named Hamburg, a baby girl was born. It was July 17, 1954 when the daughter of a pastor and an English teacher was given the name of Angela Dorothea Kasner. Growing up in the midst of the Cold War in Germany, imposed her father to show interest and concern in politics. He would invite a few people over his home to dispute irrational affairs that were taking place. During that time, citizens were not able to speak freely about their opinions and protests were not welcomed. Therefore, Kasner remained tightlipped for many years to come.
Politics later became a part of her daily experience. Kasner was raised in a world of communism, yet when she was old enough to meddle into politics, she joined the Christian Democrats. She learned a lot about politics even though she received her PhD in Physical Chemistry initially showing interest in being a researcher.
Kasner got married and later divorced keeping the last name Merkel. When she found her niche in politics and steadily climbed the political ladder, she was soon holding prominent roles. She finally made it to a place no other woman had reached before. She became the chancellor of Germany three times.
As stated on BBC online, the British diplomat, Jonathan Powell shared “One of the things people don’t always understand about her is she’s actually a ruthless political operator” which proves that she has a good handle on her position like a stout leader would. Others have not only commented on her work ethic, but on how she divulges her love to make a difference in her country and how she emphasizes on the particulars.
Merkel has won people over unlike musical artists and movie stars seduce their fans. On the Daily Mail online, a university professor named Wolfgang Stock, known as Merkel’s biographer assessed how people felt about her. “No one loves her, no one adores her, but she is well-respected.” This shows that besides being a female leader, she does not need to draw in affection from others, merely admiration for her work.
One fact is certain; Merkel has been working on ameliorating the debt disaster for Europeans. As was disclosed on a 2011 article on USA Today, Merkel added, "It's a process, and this process will take years." This is what has promoted her to stay in office; her unrelenting aim to fix this issue and several others. As a chancellor, managing endless ideas and constantly revising them, Merkel centers on what the country needs in order to flourish now and for its future.
